What PayPal takes from an invoice.
PayPal charges by how your client pays: 3.49% + 49¢ when they pay with PayPal or Venmo, 2.99% + 49¢ by card, and 1%, capped at $10 by bank. On a $5,000 invoice that’s $174.99 if they pay with PayPal and $10.00 if they pay by bank. On Small, a bank payment costs $6.50 on Pro, Stripe’s fee included.

Stripe’s standard US rates: 0.8%, capped at $5 by bank, 2.9% + 30¢ by card. A bank payment also costs $1.50 when your client verifies their account instantly, which most do, and $4 if it fails or $15 if it’s disputed. Bank transfer works for US-dollar invoices on a US Stripe account.
PayPal’s US invoicing rates: 1%, capped at $10 by bank, 2.99% + 49¢ by card, 3.49% + 49¢ with PayPal or Venmo. PayPal’s table adds a fixed fee to every row except bank, and doesn’t say whether it applies there too. We’ve left it out, so the bank figure is PayPal’s lowest reading. Ask to be paid by bank.
On a big invoice, how your client pays moves the total more than any plan does. A $5,000 invoice paid by card costs over $145 in fees whichever tool sends it. Paid by bank on Small, Stripe’s fee included, it’s $16.50 on Solo, where our 0.5% puts it above PayPal’s $10.00, and $6.50 on Pro, which is $9 a month. Bank transfer works for US-dollar invoices on a US Stripe account.
Either way, your client pays from a link with no account to make, and Small sends five reminders on its own. They stop when the invoice is paid.
